The Occasional Woman — More Fashion Trends
I’m baaacccckkkk — and ready to rant! I left you all last time with a few cogent trend/fashion ideas: and now I found the tattered piece of paper om which I listed some other topics for your … enlightenment.
I mentioned last week that nice, button-down, almost men’s wear-y shirts and blouses were gaining in the Hey I’m Great Sweepstakes — but what ho! (no, not you) there are other male trimmings that are fetching right now. Menswear trousers — they are tres jolie but — if one is celebrating her femininity, one might be disconcerted by this. What the fashion wags are really touting is a well-tailored and fitted pant. Not a legging, jegging or harem pant, but a really good fit. Anne Taylor does this, as do several other designers, and it just gives one a great silhouette and always looks classy.
Kinda on the same subject are: culottes. Skirt in the front, pants in the back? Right, it’s a mullet for your tushie! And that should end the discussion, but another word — “scrunching.” Cuz this aberration, which I thought died with the 1970s and refuses to go away gracefully, will climb up into the nether recesses of crotchdom where it will wad up around your naughty bits. I can’t recommend this trend at all.

Another caution is jumpsuits. I am willing to wager that a lot of my readers, or both of them, have a wee bit longer torso than is convenient, and the average women’s jumpsuit is made for a shorter torso unless it is a Tall brand. One sudden hand-raising and ow, ow, ow. Additionally, they can look a tad gruesome from behind on many humans.
Bitch, bitch, bitch. Does she like nothing?
I do like a few new things — some mixing of patterns can be quite swell, like a small floral and a medium stripe in the same outfit, and do try not to mix really wild patterns, ya hippie.
Oh no!
Vintage lace is prettifying a lot of garments, and looks marvy. A small femme touch, or a whole lace blouse or dress says “Oh hey! I’m girlie, smart and fun”! It’s also a nice conversation starter.
I ask that 99% of you avoid a teenybopper look that refuses to shuffle off to Buffalo, and that is the exposed belly. Not that many people can carry that one off. A short top and a low-cut skirt or shorts? Are you under 18, or a Lady of the Night? Yes? No? If yes, go head on, girl. If no, well … think again. Please.
I’m seeing a lot of bold-color jackets and shoes. Love it! Stand up straight, and as always, see you on the flip side.

Definitely in bed with you on these recommendations, Lorraine. I love it (not) when the fashion mags come up with their trends for the season and list about 20 of them (oh yah ,get real) some of the stuff, well, I wouldn’t be caught dead in it unless I was 20 and obviously female. You do need to be careful on mixing patterns unless you were raised with a fashion sense and most CDs don’t have a clue.
Love the lace and sequins though, possibly because I see a lot of it here in Mexico and it is very feminine. Glad to see you chose Taylor Swift as an example because she is fast becoming a style icon and perhaps a bit more daring than the Duchess, who I think is the best.
